Something is rotten in Frankfurt when it comes to hotel parking place

Two examples of quite unfriendly and unprofessional manners in two hotels in Frankfurt.

Wednesday 7th December, 22:00

I booked a hotel room at the hotel mentioned above and requested a parking place.
Around 18:00, I called them to make sure the parking place will be available when I got to the hotel and they confirmed both the hotel room and the parking place.

I got to the hotel about 10pm, asked for the parking place and they said there was none available.

I asked why and the guy at the reception said, with rude manners, he could not keep control of everybody who parks there.

As I booked that hotel basically because of the parking, I said, "Maybe I will not take the hotel room". The guy: "up to you"

As I gave my credit card details to booking.com, I asked the receptionist "how can I make sure you will not charge my credit card as a no-show" he says "we will not do it" and I reply "but you also said I will have a parking place and I do not have it, could I please have something in written from you saying you will charge not me" and he replied looking down to his notebook and in a quite unfriendly way "no, I will not give you anything in written".

- Is there any room available for tonight? Do you have parking in the hotel?

- Yes and yes

- Is there a parking place available for me?

- I do not know

- What do you mean by you do not know?

- I do not see the parking from here and I can not control everybody who parks over there.

- So what does it work then?

- You drive your car to the underground parking, you try to find a place available, if you find one, bingo, you park it.

- And what if there is none?

-   will park it on the street

As I did not get it, I asked: "sorry, you said you will park it for me on the street or should I do it by myself ?"

- Do you have driving license?

- Yes

- Well, you can park it by yourself. Why should I drive your car for you?

Mi candidata favorita para el Senado por Albacete

Los que me conozcáis sabréis que no sigo mucho la política, sinceramente, me parece demasiado enfocada al enfrentamiento dialéctico y no tanto al diálogo constructivo. Trato de estar más al tanto de la realidad económica en donde parece que los números dan otro cariz menos pasional.

Dicho esto, quería haceros llegar una noticia relacionada, precisamente, con la política y es que una buena amiga se presenta a senadora, sí, sí, a senadora.
Para mí eso es un honor, conocer a alguien que tiene la posibilidad de ir al Senado representando a Albacete.

Con ella y con otros amigos, hemos estado comentando las diferencias en los sistemas de votación para el Congreso y para el Senado. En el Congreso, como ya sabréis, eliges un partido y votas a la lista completa del partido. En cambio para el Senado es más flexible, puedes votar a candidatos de varios partidos, sólo tienes que hacer una cruz a cada uno de tus candidatos.

El sistema de votación para el Senado te permite votar a candidatos que encajen con tus ideas políticas y, además, elegir a otros que, incluso encajando menos, te parece que serían excelente senadores.

Today, via @luisete, I came across some new NASA pictures trying to show footprints and tracks left on moon's surface during landing back in 1969.

As I am not an expert on GIMP nor Photoshop so I will not judge on how easy or difficult would be to trick those pictures.

Curiosidades del turismo en Dinamarca

     Es curioso que la parte más al sur de Dinamarca, en donde he estado las dos últimas semanas, es el punto más al norte en el que había estado nunca.

     Me ha llamado la atención el tipo de turismo que se ve y se practica por aquí, ya que siempre he sido más asiduo al estilo "sol y playa" que a lo que uno puede disfrutar por aquí.

     Dinamarca es un país pequeño y rico, por lo que uno podría esperar que estuviese, digamos, lleno. Pues bien, en la zona en donde estoy "Gedesby" uno ve a gente de tanto en tanto, incluso saludas a los que te cruzas.

   En la playa ves un grupo de gente cada kilometro, el silencio es constante, hasta los niños lloran en voz baja .... Bares y cafeterías hay dos en 10 kms al redonda, nada de discotecas y sitios de marcha, los supermercados cierran a las 5 y media. En suma, un sitio muy muy tranquilo.

     También podría uno esperar que al ser el danés un idioma muy minoritario, hablado solamente en Dinamarca, la gente fuese a tener fluidez en alemán o inglés. Pues eso no se cumple en esta zona del país, la gente te entiende y habla un poquito ambos idiomas, pero no con fluidez. No como ocurre en Holanda, ejemplo de otro idioma minoritario, en donde es habitual encontrar a personas con fluidez en holandés, alemán e inglés.

     Quizá lo más significativo, según mi punto de vista es que únicamente los ciudadanos daneses puede comprar propiedades inmobiliarias en Dinamarca. Eso hace que el alquiler de viviendas sea el modo más habitual, si no el único, de organizar unas vacaciones aquí. Veo aquí dos consecuencias claras, la primera es que la riqueza que llega al país a través del turismo, lo hace de una forma lenta, constante y sostenible. La otra es que la especulación, aunque posible, está limitada a los especuladores locales.

     Para terminar, está el tema de las arañas. Aquí no quitan las telarañas, están en todos los rincones. La cosa es que están seguros de que las arañas no van a entrar en las casas, ni van a molestar, al menos las que tienen una cruz a la espalda (DK: Korsedderkop, Latin: Araneus diademata, DE: Kreuzspinner, ES: araña de jardín). Esas se quedan siempre fuera. Como la gente no las mata y se identifican claramente por la cruz, han proliferado mucho y las encuentras por todas partes.

   Había leído algo similar de unos cangrejos de la costa de Japón que tienen algo parecido a una cara en la espalda. Surgió la leyenda de que la cara era de un emperador y la gente, por respeto a la memoria del emperador no los comía y también hay muchísimos por allí.

PMI-SP certification added to my CV

Yesterday, 8th Aug, I took the exam for the PMI-SP (Scheduling Professional) certification issued by PMI and I passed :)

Information of the exam that may be of your interest.

• 170 questions, 3,5 hours.
• There was one question with two answers exactly the same. It makes it easier because on can discard those immediately but it is the first time something like that comes across.
• There were many questions regarding Performance Reporting and some (more than I wanted/expected) were not specifically mentioned in the preparation material.
• I found some (3 or 4) mistakenly phrased questions. One was asking for techniques while all the possible answers were processes and other one was stating "project management plan" when it was actually meaning "project schedule".
• Earn Value Management and Network scheduling questions were not too complicated. Easy calculations, doable only understanding the concepts. Abbreviations BCWS, BCWP and ACWP were key in a couple of questions
• One always finds surprising questions like asking for the "typical" monthly meetings ... well, the only monthly even I have managed in my projects was the payroll / invoicing, everything else was weekly, at least.

About preparation, I took the "Preparation Course PMI-SP Exam", the archived version of it and it was fine. I even recommend the recorded version as it makes easier to follow the course, you can schedule :) breaks and sessions at your own pace. The written material, which includes "Practice Standard for Scheduling" was also sufficient.

The natural next step would be to go ahead with preparations for the PMI-RMP (Risk Management Professional) exam. But it will have to wait as I am focussed on my social media business and Bachbill. Maybe I will try to give some Project Management training.
